Henry Lauder's Walking Stick

Corylus avellana 'Contorta'

Location: Formal (16)

Also known as Corkscrew Hazel, this tree was noticed growing as part of a hedge in the 1800s and is now propagated by grafting. Due in large part to its characteristic contorted branching, this Corylus gained its name from the fact that Henry Lauder, a Scottish entertainer, often appeared with a crooked walking stick.
